PASS IT ON: A RETURN TO WORDS

Lawyer Wade by Anders Zorn

It’s been years since I last wrote on a personal blog.

For a long time, I wondered if I would ever return to blogging. Part of the reason I stopped was because I came to realize that the journey of discovering oneself often requires a certain type of silence. Some experiences are just too personal to explain and not everything we learn needs to be translated into words for others. There were also times when I questioned whether there was any value in trying to articulate a journey that, by in its very nature, is deeply personal.

And yet, here I am.

I’ve reached a point where I feel compelled to write again—not because I have all the answers but because I believe knowledge is meant to be shared. Every insight we gain has the potential to spark something in others. Whether it confirms what they already know or encourages them to ask new questions.

There’s a quote from the movie Lucy that has stayed with me over the years:
“The sole purpose of life has been to pass on what was learned. So, if you’re asking me what to do with all this knowledge you’re accumulating, I’d say… pass it on.”
Whether or not you take those words literally, I find the sentiment deeply meaningful. We spend our lives learning through books, conversations, experiences, accomplishments, and failures. If those lessons remain with us alone, they could remain lost for millennia. But when we share them, they continue to live, evolve, and perhaps become part of someone else’s journey.

The last time I maintained a blog was over a decade ago. It was called My Cheap Camera, a space where photographers of every level could share images taken with whatever camera they owned and talk about their creative process. Its slogan was, “It’s not the camera, it’s you.” I believed then, and still believe now, that tools don’t create meaningful work—people do. Vision, curiosity, and authenticity matter far more than the equipment or tools we use.

This new chapter feels different.

Here, I want to write about books that have challenged the way I think and feel, timeless wisdom that has shaped my perspective, art that continues to inspire me, and everything in between. More importantly, I want to explore the discoveries that have become essential in my own search for who I am, why I’m here, and where I came from.

I don’t expect every post to provide answers. If anything, I hope they encourage better questions. This blog isn’t about presenting certainty; it’s about documenting a lifelong pursuit of understanding—of ourselves, our place in the world and the ideas that quietly transform us along the way.

If you’ve found your way here, welcome. I hope that somewhere within these words, you’ll discover something that resonates with your own journey. And if there’s one thing I’d like these pages to embody, it’s this: whatever wisdom we gather in our lifetime, it’s meant to be passed on.
